PRESENTATION

The vector files are generally available in two or three versions: poitical/roads, physical and simplified. So, depending on the topic and framework, the geographical features available are: sea bed relief, detailed coastlines, up to nine levels of relief, borders as recognized by the UN, hydrographic systems, roads and motorways, administrative divisions of over 100 countries, meridians, etc., along with several tens of thousands of names of towns and cities, streets, rivers, lakes, gulfs, counties, provinces, Länder and so on.

GRAPHICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Vector mode (VECTOR), which can be opposed to point mode (image), has very interesting graphic characteristics. This mode is ideal for editing a file, using it in high resolution and importing it into your page layouts. Vector files can also be opened in most image processing software.

Easy to edit
Eachshape or line is independent (in size, colour and location) from all the other elements of the same map or drawing.

Scaling
Each file can be reduced or enlarged without affecting the quality of its graphics.

Color attributes
The colours allocated to the different picture elements are composed of four colours. You can modify the colour attributes of an element (background, line or contour thickness) independently of the other picture elements.

Closed shapes
Coloured surfaces are constructed as "closed shapes", i.e. as a succession of anchor points joined together. The modifications that can be made to the drawing attributes are therefore similar to those that can be applied to any geometric shape.

Layers
Layers are like a series of transparent trays. The objects on them can be selected, displayed, modified and printed.

Text attributes
All the maps are legended exclusively with the PostScript® fonts Ogr1, Ogr2 and Ogr3. Each font contains the normal alphabet and a whole host of special character not usually available in conventional fonts. Each font is available in four styles: normal, bold, italic and bold-italic.

Printing and flashing
The print quality of a map remains identical whatever modifications of scale you may make.

FORMATS

EPS files in vector mode The vector files created in Adobe® Illustrator® have been saved in EPS format. This format is easy to use in vectorial drawing and page-layout software (Adobe® Illustrator®, Macromedia® Free-Hand®, Corel® Draw, Quark® Express®, Adobe® PageMaker®, etc.).

PDF format (in the CDs only) For enhanced file portability, the EPS files are also provided in PDF format. Therefore, using Adobe® Acrobat® Reader (included on the CD-ROM), you can view and print all the files in high resolution, even if you have no professional vectorial drawing or page layout software.

TYPOGRAPHIC LEGENDS

All the maps are legended in English and the local official language, exclusively with the PostScript® fonts Ogr1, Ogr2 and Ogr3. Each font contains the normal alphabet and a whole host of special character not usually available in conventional fonts. Each font is available in four styles: normal, bold, italic and bold-italic.
